DIOCESAN BIBLICAL CATECHETICAL LITURGICAL CENTRE

D.B.C.L.C was inaugurated by Mar Joseph Kundukulam on 1st May, 1984. It was then the sole centre for biblical, Catechetical and liturgical ministry of the Diocese of Trichur. Today D.B.C.L.C includes the office of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre, Catechetical Book Stall, Institute of Theology and Archdiocesan Library. The chapel, auditorium and lecture halls make the centre a venue for gatherings, meetings, seminars and formation courses.

The Mission of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre is to introduce and to conduct ongoing training programmes that help the faithful to deepen and build up their faith in the person of Jesus Christ. The centre conducts, therefore, various faith formation programmes for Children and for youth (Ex: Sunday Catechism, School Catechism, Moral Science Classes) and also for the Catechists of the Archdiocese: Catechists' Training Course (C. T. C.). One Day Seminars, Animation Courses, Aptitude Examination, Service Award, Literary competitions, etc…, There are 231 Sunday Catechism Units in the Archdiocese.

The mission of the Institute of Theology at Trichur is to give theological and pastoral formation for the laity, the religious and the catechists, especially of the Archdiocese. The late Archbishop Mar Joseph Kundukulam took initial steps to establish the institute in 1990 and the institute was formally inaugurated by the Kerala Governor Sri. B. Rachaiah on 19th December 1992. The Institute of Theology was canonical erected through the Decree No. 1167/03 by Archbishop Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy and it came into effect on 1st January 2002. The institute is affiliated to the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) in Belgium and the Chair for Christian Studies at University of Calicut, Kerala.

The Institute of Theology offers:

  •   B. A. Degree in Theology and religious Studies (Degree from Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven)
  •   Two Year Correspondence Theology Diploma Course (Diploma from University of Calicut)
  •   Six Month Theology Diploma Course
  •   Three Month, Vocation Orientation Course
  •   Pastoral Orientation Course for the Religious
  •   Seminars and classes on catechetical, ecumenical and inter-religious subjects.
